Coffee break before leaving Tokyo.
カフェで隣の台湾人母娘が、
私のバッグを見てどこで買えるのか、
英語で聞いてくれた。
それでしばらくたのしくおしゃべりした。
娘さんはサンフランシスコ在住、
お母さんは台北にいて、
一緒に東京観光しているそう！
海外から来た方と話すのが好き。
なぜ日本に来たのか聞くのが面白い。
都内もどこも外国の人で溢れていて、
集団でいるのを見ると
圧倒されそうになる。
でも1人ずつ関わってみるまで
その人のことは
わからないよなあと思う。
そしてほとんどの場合、
優しくて素敵な人ばかりだ。
地球って本当は、だいぶいい星だ。
A Taiwanese mom and daughter next to me asked in English where I bought my bag, which led to a nice chat. The daughter lives in SF, mom in Taipei, and they’re sightseeing in Tokyo together!
I love talking to overseas visitors here. It’s intriguing to hear what made them come here. Tokyo or elsewhere is filled with inbound tourists , who can seem overwhelming in groups… but you never know who they are till you interact with them in person. And most of the time I find them kind and lovely. And our planet isn’t a bad place at all.
